It’s the most magical time of the year for high schoolers. Prom night is fast approaching! If this is their first, second, or maybe even LAST time at the big dance, they’ll want to look and feel like a rockstar at this special celebration. Pass along these tips to your son or daughter for a night they won’t soon forget!

Skin Care

In order to put your best face forward, you’ll need to start early. Adopting a skin care regimen even a few weeks in advance of the prom will give great results. Every night before bed, wash your face using gentle products like the AVEDA All Sensitive Cleanser. Anything abrasive could cause irritation, making skin problems even worse. In the morning, re-cleanse and then apply sunscreen over all exposed skin…yes, even on cloudy days. SPF is the biggest defense mechanism against sunburn, skin cancer, premature aging and wrinkles, and a myriad of other issues. It’s never too early to start taking good care of your skin, and going to the prom is the perfect excuse to start!

Nail Care

Your personal style can extend all the way to your fingertips. Add a little pizzazz to your look by making your nails part of the ensemble. To get those digits in tip top shape, keep a nail file at your bedside. Use it nightly to help the edges stay smooth; this allows the nails to grow out nicely. For smooth hands, keep a bottle of AVEDA hand relief within reach (like in your backpack or purse!). Not only will it moisturize, but it also serves as an antibacterial to keep the germs at bay. A few days prior to prom, treat yourself to a gel manicure and pedicure. Not only will it last much longer but it will stay shiny too. After the dance, it might be tempting to peel the gel polish off but resist if you can! Peeling will only harm your nails. Come in and have it soaked off instead!

Tips for Looking Picture Perfect on Prom Night

Hair Care

For the best looking locks, wash your hair (yes, wash…don’t just use dry shampoo) at least 2 – 3 times each week. Use both a shampoo and conditioner that is best formulated for your hair type (if you don’t know, ask your stylist!). If you color your hair, we recommend AVEDA Color Conserve to keep the hue long-lasting and healthy. For those with curly hair, we love the AVEDA Co-Wash, while the AVEDA Pure Abundance is great for those with fine tresses.

When it comes to your prom hair style, start collecting pictures for inspiration. This is the best way to communicate to your stylist the exact look you’re hoping to achieve. Be sure to look for photos of people who have a similar hair color and texture as yours! It will give you the best idea of what your desired style will look like on YOU!

Lastly, if you aren’t familiar with the stylist who will be dolling you up for the night, book a consultation first! Our are always free.

Makeup

Whether the look is clean and classic or glam and a bit bold, the makeup is the finishing touch on your prom look. If you’re having yours done professionally, take our same advice as your hair style – look for photos that inspire you and show these to your makeup artist. This will allow you both to communicate from the same common ground and for them to understand your desired look.

Prom is a great excuse to wear false lashes. But if this will be your first time, they can take some getting used to. Give them a test run a few weeks or days before the big event! And don’t forget about makeup touch ups! Be sure to get a sample or full size lip color for after dinner and the long night ahead!

And most importantly, have the time of your life!
