The roaring 20s might be back but that doesn’t mean flapper dresses, short bobs, and red lips are too. Instead, these modern new styles will take you into the latest decade. Here are the hair, makeup, and nail trends to look for this coming year!
Blush is back…and better!
Blush is no longer on your checks but rather the hues of pink are replacing highlighter. Think natural highlight, not crazy contour. To try this new look, makeup artist Daniel Martin advises dusting blush in a C-shape from the top of the cheeks to your eyes to create an angelic, halo-like effect that adds dimension to your face.
The Higher the Hair, the Better
The topknot is here to stay, ladies. This I-tried-but-I-want-to-make-it-look-like-I-didn’t style is effortlessly cool. Very few hairstyles can easily go from spin class to the step-and-repeat but this is one of them! Pull out some face-framing pieces for that money shot or add volume to your crown for a romantic vibe.
Accessorize That Do
Had a little pizzazz to your hairstyle with a trendy barrette, headband, or clip. These accessories can easily take you from the office to a night out, or turn a casual look into an upscale or fun style. Keep your eyes peeled for head scarves, pins, and combs, all of which are going to be everywhere!
Shags & Bangs are Back
Everything comes back around and that includes shag haircuts and bangs. This time, they’re together and they’re packing a mighty punch. If you’re yearning for a new look that is a cross between retro and contemporary, this is it!
Le Petite Manis
Let your fingers do the talking…and in this case they’re speaking French. French manicures are back but with a twist. This fresh take on the super popular look from yesterday features micro tips in fun colors. Opt for this look if you want a mani that won’t show grow-out quite as quickly.
Brows Go Au Natural
What’s going to be the biggest beauty trend of 2020? Consistently inconsistent brows. This is one style we’re particularly excited about. Gone are the days of overly shaped eyebrows that tended to never look natural. Instead, let those babies grow as they were intended. Celebrity makeup artist Katie Jane Hughes, who works with supermodel Ashley Graham, says, “I think people are going to go through all the lengths to make their brows look natural as opposed to overdone. Think less of that stamped-on brow look, and more of a soft, fluffy brow.”
Let’s Not Forget the Guys
No way would we end this list of 2020 style predictions without talking about all you gentlemen out there. Consider yourself low maintenance? Lucky for you, messy is going to be in! Bed head kind of hair courtesy of a textured crop is going to be the go-to short style, while we’ll continue to see the man bun well into this new decade.
